In my recent post about President Herbert Hoover's veto of the Gadsden Purchase 75th Anniversary Half Dollar (read it here: What If? 1930 Gadsden Purchase - Hoover's Veto Message), I mentioned two contemporary commemorative coin proposals that were stalled indirectly due to the veto.

These weren't the only coin bills to be impacted by Hoover's veto, so I thought I would return to the topic to list each of the contemporary bills that failed in the immediate wake of President Hoover's veto.

- *What If? 1930 Lewis And Clark Expedition 125th Anniversary

- *What If? 1930 Massachusetts Bay Colony Tercentenary

- What If? 1931 Los Angeles 150th Anniversary

- What If? 1931 Yorktown Surrender 150th Anniversary

Note: Coin proposals marked by an * were listed in the Gadsden Purchase post.

Hoover's veto can be likened to throwing a pebble in still water - its ripple effects extended out beyond the initial impact.

Indeed - Hoover was trying to hold the line on commemorative coin purchases. Alas the flood gates opened during FDR's administration.
