Thanks for the feedback so far. I am debating on whether to make an offer or not. As for price, there is about a $600 spread between F12 and VF20. Hence, why I want feedback as I don't want to get this wrong, buying the coin, not the holder.

Good call. The upshot is you do not have much to lose as there will always be buyers of the holder, not the coin, assuming you leave it intact.

I believe this easily makes VF20. It compares very favorably to the coin linked below, given this same grade by anacs, which also happens to be the highest auction price that I could find for a 1889-CC Morgan sold at auction in this grade - realizing $2,318. If I were OP I would buy it if offered for under this price.

I also think it's a solid VF-20, but the eye appeal of the Heritage example is much nicer. The color and toning on this one is a bit splotchy and uneven.

with Zurie on eye appeal. I would adjust my offer price a little for this. also, imo she grades straight. I dont see a cleaning and if it was, it was so long ago that it would have no bearing on it.
