I say it is in the Fine range and I like the circulation cameo.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I am debating on whether to make an offer or not. As for price, there is about a $600 spread between F12 and VF20. Hence, why I want feedback as I don't want to get this wrong, buying the coin, not the holder.

Good call. The upshot is you do not have much to lose as there will always be buyers of the holder, not the coin, assuming you leave it intact.

I believe this easily makes VF20. It compares very favorably to the coin linked below, given this same grade by anacs, which also happens to be the highest auction price that I could find for a 1889-CC Morgan sold at auction in this grade - realizing $2,318. If I were OP I would buy it if offered for under this price.

I also think it's a solid VF-20, but the eye appeal of the Heritage example is much nicer. The color and toning on this one is a bit splotchy and uneven.

with Zurie on eye appeal. I would adjust my offer price a little for this. also, imo she grades straight. I dont see a cleaning and if it was, it was so long ago that it would have no bearing on it.

I like the OP's coin's toning. What bothers me more is the gauge by the eye of Liberty in the HA coin, which unfortunately lies near one of the coin's focal points.

Here's the holder. Thank you everyone for all of the feedback. I made the purchase with 30 day return privilege and $600 below the coin referenced by Numismatic Student.

Will be interesting to see what this looks like in hand. I purchased a 78-CC this last Sunday, already arrived, and in hand I think it looks much better than what was depicted in the seller pics, presumably due to lighting, exposure etc.

We all have our preferences, for me I like the toning and overall appearance on this coin more than the coin referenced by NS. I also find the significant hits to the nose, eye, and temple detracting, never mind the price differential.

Most of you know that my interest is in raw coins. However, for the '89, I decided to consider anything in PCI, SEGS, or ICG holders to be in the "raw" class. Hopefully I'm happy with it in hand. I've been looking, making offers, and bidding on some since last December.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July, all!

Adam
