I found this in change after using cash to pay for my groceries at Shaw's. I know it had a very high mintage, but it's not everyday you get Wheat Cents in change. I also know that it's not worth very much at all either, but that doesn't matter to me. It ended up going with my bag pile of Wheat Cents I keep.

I agree. I saw the reverse first and knew it was a Wheat cent.

That's a fun find, Errers! It certainly brightens my day when I get a wheatie, although it's been quite a while since that happened.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Thank you, all 3 of you! It makes me happy when I find a Wheat cent, regardless of the date.

They're still out there! I hate 1944's. lol I used to buy 5000 ct bags from my dealer all the time and there was always a TON of 1944's in them.

They sure are. I feel your pain. I have a full box of mostly common date Wheat Cents that I rolled up. I also have a bag filled with mostly common date Wheat Cents as well. I thought about unloading them at my local coin shop, if they'll take them. I've got way too many now.

I still have 55 of these that I got from a bulk purchase of wheat cents in the UK many years ago. The highest number of spare wheat cents that I have are the 85 1943 Philadelphia cents. I have just over 700 wheat cents that I consider to be spare.

There's always that blood rush and thump in chest when I see a 1944 cent!! Is it copper or is it the elusive steel that I've read and heard so much about?

I always feel a little surge of adrenaline when I find a wheatie in change.

One of the things I love about coin collecting is the history. Just think about what the world was like--for better or worse--when this coin was first put into circulation. It transcends time.

Thank you, both. I agree. I love the history of these coins. You never know where they've been all these years.

I hope everyone had a good 4th!
