jager911 New Member United States 13 Posts	Posted 11/26/2009 07:37 am I started going though a family collection of Morgan dollars and Mercury dimes and was hoping to get some help with grading. just carl Bedrock of the Community United States 20753 Posts	Posted 11/28/2009 12:11 pm Maybe not the most explicit explanations but since the Red Book by Whitman Publishing is so popular, the 2010 edition on pate 9 gives a decent explantion of coin conditions. A book that should help out with the basics. As to values, that is the one book you should not use though. But if you do, just deduct about 25% of what it shows. If your not an expert, not planning on selling those coins, only want an idea of values, the Red Book should help a lot. I'm a rather lousy grader of coins but since I do not sell them, makes little difference if I'm off a little here and there. Still it is nice to have an idea of what they are worth. atlashealth Pillar of the Community United States 1691 Posts	Posted 11/28/2009 3:42 pm both series are beautiful and there are special dates and variety's to look for which increase values greatly...enjoy the project...it may turn you into a coin collector...PS this is a good time to cash in on poor quality silver coins which has higher melt values...Good luck!
