norham New Member United States 35 Posts	Posted 01/16/2010 4:52 pm I'm a newbie and recently retired I'm trying to organize some coins that I have acquired before jumping in with both feet and I would like to know what this is? Is it spendable (real money)? What is it made of? Is it collectible? I have looked it up in "collecting world coins" but no information just a picture. I also have another coin with the same OBV. but the REV has Lady DI and Prince Charles. Report this Post to the Staff

Modern crowns were first released at the value of 25 pence and later at 5 pounds. These are legal tender but no one spends them (and most store clerks would not know what one is). One you posted the picture of is the Silver Wedding Crown, 1972. I suspect your other one is the Charles & Diana Wedding Crown, 1981 which looks like: The above was the last one issued at 25 pence value. Normal issues are cupronickel. Proof issues can be cupronickel or silver. Loose versions sell for £2 (around $3.20) fron dealers in the UK. http://www.tclayton.demon.co.uk/coins.html is a good place to research UK coins.
