It seems that The Royal Mint does not sell of the five pound coins for five pounds (plus shipping charge) - the option from them costs £9.99 plus £2.95 shipping (which comes to over $21 which is very close to the price of American Eagle silver coin).

Westminster Mint offered the Henry VIII coin for £5 with free shipping, so I ordered one but now they say it is delayed. The only thing I would every buy from them is the £5 for £5 with free shipping and then laugh at the other offers thru the year.

Asked at the post office and banks with no joy.

So the question is, how are these £5 released to the public these days?

I basically asked the mint if they were releasing this coin as a circulating coin and the woman e-mailed me back and said if I wanted it for £5 I had to ring her up, but I only want circulating coins anyway, so I didn't bother, but it seems they are only going to be doing coins that come in nice packaging and cost £10 from now on. What's the point?

You used to be able to get them at the main post offices (not the branch ones.) Its been a few years since I was in the UK but check with the post master and see if he can order you some.
