I've looked at this using a magnifying glass and as close as I can tell it's a 1797. I have done scans and even have one of the date area which is slightly messed up even though the coin is quite nice. Give me your thoughts please as also the top of the B in Britannia on the reverse is missing.

Check the size of the coin. It looks like a halfpenny. The ones struck in 1799 have 30 - 31 mm in diameter.

Well, I guess it's a half penny then because it's 30mm in diameter.

Thanks

Yea, I'm was pretty convinced it was 1799 to but the date area is so chewed up compared to the rest of the coin and the number spacing looks odd to me also. I was wondering if they hand stamped the date back then?
