They've been around for awhile. I picked up several of these from a tourist shop in Honolulu airport while transiting to Canada in the 1980's. Made of plated aluminium, sold as drink coasters I believe. I bought one of each variety they had: a Lincoln Cent identical to this one, an 1890-something Indian Head cent in oxidized copper finish, and a Saint-Gaudens $20 in gilt.

Interesting novelties, but way too big to store with my coins. I sold them off some years ago now, for a few bucks each at my local coin club auction.

I have this one in my collection with a US 5 cent a dime and a quarter.
Purchased them at a gift shop in Utah that was going out of business.
Paid US $1.00 each

They are fun to use when doing presentations.
I keep them in 2x2s
only kidding

I have each one in a full size sheet protector sheet.
so they can be seen on each side.
