I haven't opened any up but from what I can tell it's just the plastic that is making it look worse. splatto might be correct, though. When I first saw then I could only think to myself, "these look like they've been well circulated."
On one of my strips one of the dollars came off so I had a strip of 4 and a single.

Just got mine in the mail as well, a number of nicks on them! Oh well at least it was face! No problem sending a few to those who cannot get them as easily!

I'm certain the finish on mine are different. I held a coin from circulation behind the plastic (so it was seen through TWICE as much plastic as those on the inside) and the luster was still brilliant. That should discount the 'through the plastic' theory

I guess at a dollar each with free shipping you can't expect much from the mint. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't expect to get as much interest as they did and so they just started putting circulated coins into plastic.

Ha! I guess they're selling off their duds so that their Master collectors get the MS+! Petty.. Petty.. The few I got are purely from circulation, and they are appearing in lots of places now. At the very leeeeeast, those with the 5-strips can say they are actually in "mint-state". :P

Well my confirmation came today and after reading all of the above I'm not excited about receiving them. The Mint did note that there is a money back guarantee.

Shipping on mine was $2.75 (just came in today).
Money back guarantee? If you don't like them just cut it open and spend it. You only paid face value for it, and it is still worth a buck.
I think I did okay, especially after reading the other comments. The plastic is rough and creates a rough appearance on the coins so it is tough to grade without taking them out. I've only looked at a couple of the sets and I'm sure at least couple are MS63, and possibly an MS64. Not bad for a buck in my opinion.
Of course this does not in any way mean that I'll be buying any of the other over priced items the mint has on their site, but I'm still happy with the deal I got. And they'll make cheap gifts too.

Mine finally arrived today. There's no 70s, but they seem okay. That plastic is horrible ... I would love to test it for PVC, it seems to have a smell like vinyl.

I am surprised the RCM hasn't come out with a Collector version of the coin yet. Probably later this year.

I was refering to the circulation coin discussed in this thread.
I can think of a few variants... such as a Special Edition Specimen Set, a Special Edition Proof Set, a Special Edition Circulation set (all sets featuring the New Canadian $1 Navy Coin). Place your bet...
