1964 D Nickel "die Break"?

Fishstix New Member United States 9 Posts	Posted 08/28/2010 5:30 pm I found this 1964 D nickel with what appears to be some sort of die break attaching "States of America". What is your opinion? Have you seen it before? Report this Post to the Staff

Do not know the mintage figures for the P and D 64 but I seem to find more of those in bank rolls on average than other dates. Constantly find at least 2 or 3 in every roll and have for years. I keep looking for that stupid "Pluridus" Emphasis on the D (worn B) die det. I guess, a habit from long ago. :) Report this Post to the Staff
coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 08/29/2010 09:54 am Looks like extreme wear on the die. If it were a Cud the edge of the die would not be round. It appears that the only area affected is next to the rim and not the rim as a Cud would be. Nickel dies wear faster as the copper/nickel composition affected the dies more. Not as bad as the Steel cents, but real close. Report this Post to the Staff
