I emailed Micheal Findlay about the 2000p penny back when he was the Trends editor. He told me that these 8 ICCS coins were misattributed, and there are no known examples of the 2000p penny.

Thanks that is what some dealers told me I once owned 3 of the 10 cents (all PCGS MS-67), 2 of the 3 quarters (caribou ICCS MS-64 and community ICCS MS-62) and the 50 cent 2000P in PCGS MS-66. I was going to complete the set when I was offered the last 25 cent piece missing the creativity but decided that it is not worth the risk if say a bunch come out then I would lose big time on all of them. I may be wrong and these coins may turn out to be the biggest prizes in modern coins in Canada.
I did not want to be victim of a repeat with others coins such as the 1969 large date dime or the 1916C gold sovereign both have bad reputations and draw little attention at auctions. The 1916C use to be worth over 100 000$ a long time back when 10 where believed to exist then bang a bunch where found same thing with the 1969 large date.

Wow: very interesting about the Michael Findlay and the 2000P cent. I asked about this in a thread several months ago, but nobody seemed to know anything. How can this many coins be misattributed?!
I secretly hope it doesn't exist, because then my small cents are basically complete, apart from 36-dot, 54 NSF, and 2006-P zinc! I guess I can try for the latter two some day, who knows!

I do not believe that owning the 36 dot penny or dime is required to have a full set these coins are like patterns almost and not part of the normal series. And most are now in museums or in permanent collection going to museums so no longer collectible.

Yes, I agree on the 36 dot! I'm impressed you have almost all the 2000P coins, by the way!

I know that as a 1 cent collector,I will never have a 1936 dot in my collection so I bought the replica a couple of years back when it was still available.Don't worry,it is stamped copy on it and has a proof finish.I was still chasing that 2000P but can now put the chase to rest.As far the 1859 brass, all exemple I have come across were not worth the money. The 1954NSF was only issued as PL.Any out there graded MS-were misattributed.I have a PL-67RD I am proud off.I am also looking for a 2006P non magnetic.

Brasher Doubloon. I have had both a $50 octagonal and Round both sitting in the palm of my hand, though.
In ancients, Sear lists a DOUBLE AUREUS S.1800, C.341, R.I.C.277a, B.M.C.157, of Caracalla. In all of my whole collecting experience, (decades),I have never even seen a picture of one of those! And I have searched far and wide, in vain.

Quote: The 1954NSF was only issued as PL.Any out there graded MS-were misattributed. Didn't someone on here recently (successfully) certify a 1954 NSF in about EF-40 grade? Was that a circulated PL, or a one-of-a-kind rarity that escaped the mint? I guess I should ask in that thread, rather than this one... Also, I suspect it's more than plausible that no 2000-P 1 cent coins exist. These 99/2000 plating tests were used (apparently) in the vending industry; a lot of automatic machines do not take pennies. The 1999 came out as a set from the mint. By the way, can a person find a 2000-P dime in circulation (in theory)?

The mint was producing plated steel core coins for other countries from the early nineties. I've often wondered if they did earlier tests that we are not aware of.

I missed the news that a bunch of 69 large date came into the market. When did this happen and can you provide numbers? What sort of price crash happened?

I don't think that a bunch of 1969 large date dimes were found all at once, I think they gradually began to surface over the years. According to Charlton in 1990, there were 3 known to exist, and now there are about 16. Still a very rare coin that almost everybody is missing, and would love to have in their collection. Despite what some people on this forum might believe, IMHO this dime is still a highlight of any numismatic auction.

I also have a 1954 NSF penny in approximately EF-40 condition; although, I'm almost certain that it was an impaired proof-like. I will probably send it in to ICCS sometime just to see what kind of grade they would assign it. It will probably be PL-40 or something strange like that. I suspect that the coin discussed on a previous forum was an impaired proof-like as well.
For a while, ICCS was misattributing these NSF pennies by calling them MS instead of PL, so you might occasionally still see one of these for sale. Don't be fooled into thinking its a super rare business strike because it almost certainly isn't.

The only good coin I have is the 2000 "p" Canadian dime. I haven't got it graded yet. I think it very rare from what I read.

I bought the 1954 NSF 1c in EF40 recently. Not sure if it is possible to tell if a coin was once PL after it escaped into circulation :). Maybe there are a few 1954 NSFs that escaped into the circulation and haven't been found until recently because no one bothered to look for something that wasn't supposed to exist ?! :)
I think all the 2000p dimes are accounted for. I bought one from the last discovered "hoard" and have the option to buy another 15 of them, up to MS68...it requires a heck of an investment though, for which I'm not quite ready yet :)...

Just out of curiousity, does anybobody think that the 2006 P Non magnetic penny(73 Known)will ever be as valuable or more so than lets say the 2000 P dime (200+ Known)?
