first of all, coin collecting isn't my hobby. it is my obsession. my hobbies are fly fishing and motorcycle riding, though I spend most of my time in my room with a box or 2 of pennies in front of me.

Bowhunting whitetails has given me some of the most exciting and thoughtful moments in my life. Most of the time it's meditating in the best God has to give, then a deer comes in and your heart comes out of your chest. In the Summer I spend a lot of time on the Mighty St. Lawrence river boating, enjoying the good life and working (my true life hobby) As I age I find myself enjoying wine and fine food, watching my children become outstanding adults and loving my wife.

My only other Hobby is the "Hunny Do List." I'm not to big into the world of fixing things but for some reason when I work around my own home and add things to it (IE: lattice under the raised deck) I get a real sense of "Yea, you are the man."

My problem with hobbies is "there aren't enough hours in the day!" Here are some of my other interests: Golf (6 hcp), golf club making, fishing, hunting, shooting, metal detecting, fixing things that are broken, and riding the Harley. I keep trying to combine hobbies but by the time my White's DFX gives me a signal, I'm two blocks down the road.
I also have one day set aside for the grandkids (three boys ages 5, 2 and 1). The 2 year old in is Indiana and we have a Skype session every Sunday morning. In the afternoon the 5 and one year old come over to the house.
Life is good!

I play pedal steel guitar(although not very well, but I enjoy it)collect gems, minerals and autographs. Gave up stamp and baseball card collecting a few years ago. I love roll searching and if I didn't have arthritis in just about every conceivable joint I would enjoy gardening a lot!

Of you all metal detectors... Any tips for a beginner? I have a Bounty Hunter (Got it for real cheap, yet barely used, at a garage sale). I find many beeps, but usually junk. Do you guys dig up all stuff?
Also, I don't have any lakes around me, what areas have you found luck with?
I guess my main issue is digging every beep and getting junk :( Gold registers as junk tho :(

Learning to distiguish "good" from "bad" was trial and error. I had to learn the machine and my environment. After awhile you'll know from the signal if you swinging over junk or treasure. Even after I learned, I still dug up a lot of junk just because it may have been gold. We have a section near the bottom dedicated to metal detecting. If you have specific questions on MD'ing, ask them there. Good luck.

Running (marathon box checked off), biking, home improvement and as Lion4Life may be able to relate to, complaining about JoePa's off guard dive calls on 3rd and 8.

This is a fun and interesting thread. I was going to start one very similar but decided to search old threads first; good thing I did. My other obsessions, er, "hobbies", include woodworking, guitar playing, road cycling, running, crossword puzzles, winemaking (and -drinking). Would love to talk to some of you who said "woodworking" that are also buying the ATB Pucks for wooden display ideas.

I'm new here, so I'll post a little about myself. I am a retired Army helicopter pilot. I enjoy drag racing and restoring old cars.

Gday helipilot16,Love my drag racing also, been involved in the sport since 1974,wish I had started collecting good quality coins as well back then. Made the pilgrimage to a NHRA meet at Las Vegas, October 2005, it just blew us away.
