Peter THOMAS Pillar of the Community Australia 2830 Posts	Posted 09/08/2011 9:17 pm stumbled over this in the Hobart Town Gazette and Van Diemen's Land Advertiser of Saturday 11 October 1823, at page 2 - "We have seen a specimen (brought out by the Mary) of Silver Coin, prepared for the British Colonies. - We hope the period may not be distant, when this Colony will have the benefit of a portion of its circulation." the Mary was a convict transport-ship that had left London on 10th June. What silver coins might these be ? All that springs to my mind is the "Anchor money", but I have read that that was intended exclusively for the West Indies. Report this Post to the Staff
