Hi again. Any knowledge out there on weight errors in Lincoln cents, and how to classify them? Tonight I found a 1966 Lincoln that weighs 2.77 grams. Is this odd? Any ideas on value? Worth having graded? It isn't worn enough got it to be "wear down" This is my second find on weight errors. Thoughts? Opinions? Experience?
Simple weight issues generally don't sell for much because they are not dramatic or obvious. They do exist in rather decent numbers, but usually aren't detected. I sold an underweight 1959D cent once for $10, but that's about the extent of what I would think they would be worth. They are usually the result of a thin or split planchet, but sometimes can be the result of having used the wrong stock to make a coin - those are usually much more valuable...such as a clad quarter minted on thinner dime stock.
