yes, I know what coin I'm holding. I'm just trying to figure out what the marks mean. On the left it says INCM, which I now know is the abbreviation of the Mint of Portugal.

But on the right it says "RF". Does anyone know whether this is a privy mark, a designer mark or anything else? And what does it stand for?

thanks in advance

Right, INCM is short for "Imprensa Nacional - Casa da Moeda". And the initials are usually those of the designer/sculptor. (If you look at current Portuguese circulation coins for example, you will see the INCM mintmark close to the 4 o'clock star, and "VS" near the 8 o'clock star.) In the case of your coin, the "RF" means Alvaro Raposo de França. See here http://escultor.com.pt/raposofranca/index.html - the coin is depicted there too.
