I would have posted my other disucssion here, but I assumed at first these die cracks were errors. Now, the cracks appear to match the 1921 VAM3H2. Can someone help in confirming this possibility? Also, should I send it into PCGS? The red lines trace the die clashes. The coin looks better in person. Ignore the circle around the M.
The 3H varieties are characterzed first by the gouge extending from the olive leaves. If your coin does not have this gouge, it's not a 3H. Furthermore, 3H has no die cracks on the left side of the obverse.
In the case of the 1921 Morgans I believe the die cracks are a useful tool to distinguish the different dies. Beyond this, I agree that die cracks on prior dates for the most part will need to have some sort of die break or field displacement to warrant a sub listing.
Someday I'll attack the 1921 VAMs and give SsuperDdave a little competition.
