Gyrene7483 Pillar of the Community United States 1704 Posts	Posted 01/15/2013 2:54 pm A friend of mine who isn't a coin collector, he's a goldsmith who works in a jewelry store that buys gold and silver for scrap and also buys coins, asked me if I knew why the 3 in 1934 was different than the 3's for the rest of the 1930's. I told him I didn't know that it was different. I don't collect nor ever have collected Lincoln cents by date. If anyone here knows the reason the Mint changed the style of the 3 for that year please tell. Thank you, Ed ANA LM-3175 Report this Post to the Staff

The style of 3 used in 1934 is the same one that they've used from 1943-present. Will be interesting to see what the experts have to say. Report this Post to the Staff

Chuck's book mentions this, but does not give a reason. Maybe this is a far fetched idea, but do you guys think there is a tiny chance that they made a 1934 with the normal pre-1943 "3" style?
