I'm not really sure what these are but I assume they are first day covers with the coins attached. Are they worth any more than just the coin itself? If anyone could shed some light that would be great. Couldn't find much on ebay..

Are those issued by a private mint? I see the postmarks are from 1990.

These are what are called PNC's Philatelic Numismatic Covers. They were an idea dreamed up by the 99 Company as a way to create a new collectible that combined the two fields Often they would be a first day cover with a numismatic tie-in in the form of a coin or medal. Some other companies also created them as well. Even the US Mint has gotten in on it. The State Quarter and President dollar first day covers are a form of PNC.

This is NOT a First Day Coin Cover, notice the 1990 postmarks which were stamped long after the last Franklin half dollar rolled off the presses. It is a Philatelic Numismatic Cover but nothing more than mass-marketing dreck, the value would only be derived from the silver half dollar itself. Look on the bright side though, you have roughly $11 worth of silver per cover If the Franklins are uncirculated, they would be worth a bit more.

I like 'em. The stamps are certainly interesting and you've got at least 11 bucks of silver there per cover.

Like any specialized collectible, you'd need to find the right buyer to get a premium for these guys. Personally I'd keep 'em.
