1937-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar - Grade?

copper nickel daddy Pillar of the Community United States 2224 Posts	Posted 01/14/2013 9:24 pm Saved this from the spot (junk) silver bin at my LCS today. Obviously a big difference between XF and AU with this one. I'm leaning more toward XF, but I'm not too good at grading this series. I do notice that the photo really accentuated some hairlines on the obverse, so might have had a light cleaning once. The lines are barely visible with the naked eye. Opinions? If not for what appears to be loss of detail on the eagle's feathers and on Liberty's breast, many would call it BU. Did this year/mintmark have any weak strike issues? Report this Post to the Staff
RK55 Pillar of the Community United States 2189 Posts	Posted 01/14/2013 11:10 pm They are typically weakly struck in the central parts of the design on the obverse and reverse. I remember reading that they attempted to improve this around the same time frame (1937) but had no success in any better strikes going forward. Report this Post to the Staff
