scan this forum and I see every now then 'special' serial numbers that are collectible. All one number, mis-matched serial numbers, etc....my question is, I have a $1 with the serial 00179700...I wish it was 00177600 (US Independence) but is this a spendable dollar or should I hang onto it for that one off collector?

Thanks all!

Hi purplepeopleeater, Unfortunately I'd say that is a spender. I don't see anything special with it as it doesn't meet any of the fancy serial criteria or a birthday serial. It is not a low serial either or super high one. Sorry.
Would be very cool if you had the 1776 serial though.

I agree - a spender, especially if it not GEM - even then, tough to get a premium.

My old rule of thumb is that if the serial number is not immediately noticeable as unique, then it is probably a spender.

1797 is the year John Adams was inaugurated. Just trying to come up with something for you.
