"Raw" medals are often stored in wooden or metal cabinets with felt-lined drawers. I like to use individual holders
to protect against knocks and other damage even within a cabinet.

Airtite containers come in a variety of sizes and can accommodate some pretty large medals. For odd sizes
and very thick medals there are mylar flips available up to 4" (and 4"x4" boxes to hold them). NGC will also holder large medals in a jumbo slab (although they are bulky and can present a storage problem).

Sometime around 1820, world map medals were produced in WM and copper/bronze in 51 mm and 74 mm sizes (Ref:Eimer 1139). You'll notice some obsolete names on the medals for several areas around the globe.

Around the same time, medals with the Kings of England, the Counties of England, the distance to spas around London, the population of the counties and overseas possessions, etc. also appeared. My theory is that they were produced for reference/educational purposes, but who knows?

WOW! Those are really neat! I like the concept of a map covering the whole coin. How much would those be worth if you don't mind me asking?

Re: World Map Medals

Here's Chris Eimer's price guide (in pounds) for medals in XF (Figure 60% of these figures for VF.)

51mm WM 375 CU 1000
74mm WM 550 CU 1700

The white metal versions come up at auction fairly frequently (and may go cheap if they've been handled or are afflicted with tin pest). Keep an eye on ebay if you're looking for a bargain.
