Was looking closer at the 2012-P Kennedy and I noticed some odd pattern to the luster. It's like it's all in lines radiating from the middle. I don't think it could be cleaning marks based on the pattern and the condition of the coin. Any ideas what causes this and it is at all a desirable "error"? It's on both sides, but strongest on the obverse.
When a coin is struck, the pressure from the die on the planchet causes the silver/metal to flow outward towsrd the edge to fill the die. This is what causes that cartwheel luster on Morgans and Eagles. as the die get used more and more, the outward travel of the metal wears outward striations into the die. This is what causes those lines. It is not an error, just time to replace or polish the dies.
