It is a die chip, and a fairly large one at that. These are pretty common on 1950's Lincoln wheat cents.

Woops. Posted this in the wrong forum...its been awhile since I've been here! Sorry about that.

Anyhow, thank you guys for your input. I thought this was pretty cool when I found it. Its really obvious, even without magnification.

It is a die chip, and a cool one. A Cud is a die break that always involves the rim.
