It's like the old saying goes though "it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it". If people are buying at his/her prices it's clearly not overpriced to someone. How informed they are. I've said this before, we do live in America, he can ask but it's up to the general public to be well informed, or not.... Separate them, place add in ebay. Now he still has to pay for the gas in his car from all that running around too. When you, if you, buy his stuff, your helping him pay for all that.
