http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-S-VDB-...em419ca324e5If there were returns I'm sure people would jump on it, me included. The second picture makes it look like it's there, the "V" and the period are visible, and parts of the B and D appear to be there but I can't be certain. $275 is obviously a heck of a deal on a coin like so, damage or not.

It's one of those sellers that puts a silver dime or other coin on the end of a machine wrapped roll of junk 50's wheat cents to attract buyers hoping to get a good deal. How can you trust a seller who does that?

I am certainly no expert but I don't like the mint mark...

Unslabbed svdbs on ebay are not worth the risks involved.

I'd rather put $275 down on a real nice 65 walker or a gem FSB Merc. that's just my opinion.

I agree. Rather have it slabbed.

It did state make an offer. Nothing to loose by offering $1 or $2. However, it's that $6 shipping that I'd worry about.

I can make out the VDB, just barely. This phenomenon is often seen on the regular 1909 VDB, not sure about the S-VDB.

I've yet to see an SVDB with a weak VDB, it's normally very strong, this coin is fake.

I'm sure you're right, but you probably don't have a Giganto XL1000 monitor with built-in MonsterZoom feature like I do.

Quote: I've yet to see an SVDB with a weak VDB, it's normally very strong, this coin is fake. Taken from http://lincolncentsonline.com/rarevarieties.html"The first 1909 Lincoln cents were minted in August of 1909. These coins had the designer's initials V.D.B. on the bottom of the reverse side. Within one week, the Chief Mint Engraver stopped production and had all working dies with the initials on the reverse removed.
These dies were taken to the metal shop where the initials were all removed and then placed back into service. Some 1910 cents can be found that have traces of the original VDB on the reverse side. It would also stand to reason that some 1909 cents would have very weak or only trace amounts of the original initials left on them."

Excellent input, thanks. I was unaware of this.

The VDB was put in a rather protected location. With the strength of the other nearby devices I'm saying "no VDB".

Based on cwb's excellet input, I'm wondering about the status of all those very-weak 1909 VDBs out there. Most dealers won't buy them.
