I like the double florins too.
This is a worn example of a very common date. I hope you didn't pay too much for it.

I live in Brazil, and here everything is expensive... , in a better grade it would be close to 269 dollars.

Did you know that this coin was nicknamed "barmaid's ruin"? This is because the coin is very similar to a crown, worth 5 shillings instead of four. Dishonest people would hand over a double florin to buy drinks, and when they received change would insist they had given a crown, thus gaining a shilling extra at the expense of the barmaid.

To give you an idea of value, just after ww2 my dad was receiving 8 shillings a day for a whole day's work labouring. The loss of a single shilling would have been painful, and this was about 50 years after this coin was circulating.

Thanks for posting this, adpietri!

I've always been fascinated by double florins. Rather like the US 2c and 20c coins, they were a dismal failure in circulation. There are two varieties of this date - Arabic 1 (as on your coin) or Roman I (date shows as I887 rather than 1887).

Coins from Victoria's reign can be very beautiful.
Why not post photos of some of your copper and bronze Adpietri, I'm sure many here would enjoy seeing them.

Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee 20 June 1887—the fiftieth anniversary of her ascension to the throne of the British Monarchy,
The 1887 double florin only had a mintage of 483,000
The double florin as pictured appears to have been polished but is still a nice piece of British history
