The mark on the neck is a finger print.

Here is an obverse clash overlay:

Reverse:
1916-Mercury-Dime---Clash-Or-Counter-Strike?
Reverse Ghost overlay layer area (PIDT) Progressive-Indirect-Design-Transfer:

Rest in Peace

Coop, WOW! Never would have seen that, but can now envision it, with residual body oils causing that effect on silver alloy. Nice 1916 coin for a set, with a bit of extra history attached!

Wow, those overlays are very impressive!
Interesting, I was totally on another line of thinking - I thought it was "PLURIBUS" & "UNUM"
Lacking Coop's superlative overlaying skills, I'll put a dime next to the one in question.

I think this is a very minor lamination problem, a few of these dimes I have had that similar appearances and wear.
