Has anyone come across or heard about a Shield nickel with overlapping dates? I've done some research and thought I'd try the community too.

I can post a photo of my nickel but first need to get my camera outfit set up so my photos are better than my phone photos.

I was wondering if anyone was knowledgeable about this particular error?

Thank you for any help you can offer!

Curious.
The first Shield nickels were struck in 1866.
My first guess without pictures, is that this coin is a deliberate post Mint concoction.

I'm hoping you meant 1882, because otherwise it is likely fake.
Rest in Peace

Or maybe not. There are five different 83/2 overdate dies, only one looks like that.

Thanks see_691

The coin is in an old, sealed, cardboard coin protector from my fathers coin collection. I, personally think, the handwritten date (on the cardboard is the error).

When I look at the coin, it looks like the coins date is 1883 over 1882.

Thank you all for your help. The coin definitely has an overdate. I'll get photos and go to a coin shop.

Really do need photos, there are a LOT of 1882 with heavy 2's out there that are misidentified as 1883/2's. (Including a lot of them being sold by dealers as the overdate.)
