Ok yes its a die crack on a 1982 copper Lincoln, that much I do know. What I am curios about is the extra thickness in the lower portion of the D. Is it a chipped out portion of the die crack causing the extra thickness? Also the two identical doubled crack lines near the rim is a new one for me, kinda odd.
I'm not 100% sure, but I'd bet you're right that the die crack was placed just so and caused a little extra fill on the D. The doubled crack lines I don't have an explanation for, though I've seen similar little projections like them before, typically near the rim, like yours. My guess is that some sort of shearing force creates a tiny cleft, almost like the surface is slightly flaking up. Maybe someone else knows definitively, though.
