I'm not sure if this is rare or of what value it would make it. Either way, seemed interesting to me. Report this Post to the Staff

Crazyb0 Rest in Peace 10197 Posts	Posted 04/06/2018 4:38 pm Called a MAD with over pressure strike. The die hit to hard at an angle forcing more material to surge upwards along the collar at 9 o'clock. Not a valuable error, just machining glitches. Now that one is quite a strong one, good example. Here's what the surface of a die looks like. Notice the rim offset around the top. Remember all is reversed image from a coin. These are how some of these errors develop. Just got a message back from Mike Diamond: Quote: Hi Richard. You've diagnosed it correctly. A slight downward tilt of the die face on the left side generated a fin lateral to the design rim. Certainly more important when working with uncirculated or proof coins, but not a bad habit even for coins with some circulation wear, like this one. Cotton inspection gloves are a pretty cheap way to keep finger oils and fingerprints off of your coins before you get them into 2x2s.
