Found this one today & was like what the! I knew I've seen it before somewhere & it end up being on wexler's site listed as WUFO-001. Has anyone ever found one of these or has it been determined how in the world this happened? A bit rough looking but sweet to find something obscure like this. Enjoy !

Very good find! Keeper for sure. If I'm not mistaken that is a lathe line. And yes, that is a WUFO.

A lathe line ? Didn't see that in the description. Actually didn't say much at all about how that happened. It is raised, so I guess it cut to deep in that circle while being engraved/hubbed etc

Wrongnumber, try giving your coin a 100% pure Acetone soak. It will help improve the surfaces on your coin without harming it.

In the Numismatic Glossary, the term LATHE LINE is not listed. What exactly or how does it happen. I understand How a lathe works, but not how it can make that flaw ?

A gouge in the stock material that was deeper than polishing would remove, could survive the hubbing process. The 1996 lathe lines shows this can happen.

Coop, your photo is labeled 1996-P and the coin is a 1996-D.
