Its worn and appears to have copper starting to be visible through out layers. What mainly got my attention was the weight. 5.2 grams. Also, I have never seen an edge showing 3 layers. Also the weight of the quarter is normal since back then, approxametly 1965 quarters, they weighed 5.6 grams. Not for sure why the quarter has multiple layers, maybe they did that back then? Not for sure...besides it having multiple layers, everything else on your quarter is normal, to my eyes. Report this Post to the Staff

A 1972 quarter is made with a copper core with a copper/nickel cladding. If the rim is worn, it would show a sandwich effect of nickel-copper-nickel. Report this Post to the Staff
