I keep them if they are shiny and appear smooth. A metal-detecting coin can get black (or green, or whatever)in a hurry. I'm guessing environmental damage (well I know environmental - it didn't come from the mint like this) I keep them myself, unless they are obvious dug coins. Report this Post to the Staff

To me this coin does not have the look of a buried coin. With the absence of apparent wear on this cent, it could be environmental damage, but I'm thinking more intentional manipulation, deliberate post mint damage. to the CCF!
