I looking at large diameter bust quarters for my 19th century type set and noticed the size listed as 29mm on CCF's US Coin Facts link:

http://www.coincommunity.com/coin_f...ped_bust.asp

I believe this is incorrect and the actual figure is 27mm.

Can some one confirm the actual diameter of large bust quarters?

Thanks!

could be a typo...but maybe the earlier coins were slightly larger?
29mm vs 27mm for those struck after 1830? DUNNO!

They are 27mm prior to 1828 and 24mm after 1828. I believe both sizes were made in 1828.

I have a 1825/4 in a nicely toned Fine. It is one of my favorite coins even though there isn't a place for it in my Dansco 7070. Something about that large diameter is really cool and unique.

Thanks KenKat. I thought 27mm was correct but I've seen a couple sources list 29mm.

These large diameter quarters are hard to find and expensive!

They sure are. I read somewhere that while the Bust halves tended to be saved and/or ended up in bank vaults, the Bust quarters were mostly spent and so got heavy use. So to find one in decent condition without mortgaging your house is a tall order.
