That is a contact mark from the reeds of another coin.
A die chip would be raised.

Looks to me like a circulation hit--possibly from the reeded edge of a coin. Nice find regardless.

On the eye, that is the normal design there:  More of a melt coin at this point with the circulation and the reed damage on that area. Edited by coop

It doesn't look like a reed hit , I think it could be a planchet flaw .

Planchet flaw? Hmm possible, I think it may just be a circulation hit - I can see how the metal is raised up on both sides of this 'canyon'
