2020 Innovation Dollar Edge Impacts

TexasSpud New Member United States 10 Posts	Posted 06/05/2022 9:31 pm I have at least 5 coins with a similar edge impact mark that appears to have occurred after obverse and reverse stamp but before edge lettering applied. there is the usual rise on face side which is first indication of damage. the flat area caused by impact is rough and the imprint of lettering on side appears to go through the impact suggesting after stamp but before edge lettering. All coins are from 2020 Philidelphia mint South Carolina coins. One coin has two defects of this type and a third that came AFTER edge strike because it is shiny and polished. The pictures included are of 3 different coins. Since these defects occur in between final edging, are they considered a mint error or simply damaged coins? TexasSpud New Member United States 10 Posts	Posted 06/05/2022 11:00 pm I agree they all took a hit, but when ? Since it made face buckle, I assume after side strikes but before edge strike. Probably not a blank or planchet "dent" because buckle shows. Why is flat area course and not smooth and polished? Report this Post to the Staff
