It caught my eye since it looked far different from any of the other heavily worn coins in the bin. The reverse is pretty much missing the rim completely and the obverse only has a rim on about half the coin. That has me leaning toward a weak pressure strike The coin weighs 6.1g. Any ideas? Thanks! I ask also the thickness because I do not see acid damage, and see the rim put me some questions, which I will not go for now for. Only one acid could damage silver coins and those marks are undeniably. Report this Post to the Staff

But it is under weight and it maybe just a weaker strike because of the thickness not being there. If the thickness is not the same on all sides, it maybe a thinned planchet? CRHunting Valued Member United States 172 Posts	Posted 04/15/2022 2:49 pm Hey Coop, You might be onto something. I have another 1954 D quarter I used as a comparison. Both coins have the exact same diameter so to your diagram it seems less likely to be an acid thinned coin. In the rim comparison images the coin in question is on the right. It does appear to be slightly thinner than the normal 1954 D quarter especially in some areas of the coin. That said, the coin is only .15 g underweight which looks like it's still within the mint's tolerance. I know striking pressure can also impact the rim width so I'm still a little unsure if it's a rolled thin planchet, a weak strike, or a combination of the two. I'm leaning toward a weak strike but I will defer to the experts. Report this Post to the Staff
CRHunting Valued Member United States 172 Posts	Posted 07/11/2022 4:41 pm Hey Everyone, I wanted to post a quick update. I happened to have a deal where I got a couple free coins graded from ANACS. I included this coin because I was curious how it might be attributed. The results are.... Drumroll.... VF 30, Details, Polished. I never saw anything on the coin that screamed "polished" to me but maybe that was because it was polished quite along time ago and many of the traces were warn away from circulation. Either way, I know grading services aren't right 100% of the time but I thought the information would still be helpful in case someone else ever found a similar coin, was thinking about submitting it for attribution, and stumbled across this thread.
