Ladies and Gentlemen
I went to my bank today to get my usual trade of wrapped coins to hunt. In my second roll of Lincoln Cents I noticed this 1972 S that had an unusal appearance where the fields were shiny. When I looked at this beauty with my microscope it was an unusual strike! I could hardy contain my excitement when I realized I was looking at a proof. This was the first cent one I have ever found in circulation. I went to PCGS to verify it was a proof, and it fit the criteria. The circulation has damaged the fields but it's still a beauty to me. No DDO or DDR that I could see so look at the pics and let me know your thoughts. Regards All.

Yes, it's a proof--in this case, an impaired proof. They do show up now and then. In all my years of cent roll searching, I've come across a dozen or so.

What does "impaired proof" mean?

Does that refer to it being circulated with the marks or does that term have a more isolated/specific meaning?

Thanks in advance!

Impaired proof means it was circulated by someone taking it out of a proof set and setting it free into the wild . Condition depends on how long it circulated . This 72-S did not circulate very long .
