Hello All. Hopefully soon I will be able to identify Machine and hub doubling but Until then please give me some knowledge on this 1969-s. Is coin Machine or hub doubling?
Classic Machine Doubling, yes. The '69 S seems to have a rather high incidence of this--especially visible with the date and mint mark. San Francisco in '68-70 was a rollicking place...
With coins minted before 1990, it's unlikely that both the Devices, and the Mint Mark will show the same type of doubling. Prior to 1990, the Mint Mark was added by hand to the Working Die after the Die had been engraved. The Hub Doubling occurs when the Working Die is struck from the Master Die. This, for the most part, reduces the chances of the coin Devices, and the MM to have the same type of doubling to almost zero.
