Just went through a roll of new 2017 nickels. Found these two which seem to have another slight imprint on side of building. Wondering if it's known or just small fluke. Thanks again!

Those are nickels, not LMCs.

Looks like it could be a die crack or strikethrough; close up pictures would help.

I think that's an early formation of a chip in the die. That's a stress point in the design when the coins are struck. A lot of Die Chips form there, the more the die is used, the bigger they get. It's a minor error with little if any added value on a circulated coin.

Just found this same flaw...years later. Though I know it's very common, it was interesting to find it on the cuds-on-coins site. If you'll look at :

Jefferson nickel; 1938 - Present
2017P Philadelphia Mint
DC-5c-2017P-01R

This is the one I found. I thought it was just PMD until I looked further. The O in Monticello has a die chip as well. Happened often apparently. Saw same thing on 2018s as well.

You will see cracks and chips in that area on all modern Jefferson years, 2006+. When the flake splits off the wall, they are often called hornets nests or beehives. Not particularly collectible unless they are huge, but they are fun to find while CRH.

Now every time I see a nickel, I look for the wasp's nest. This was on a 2020 from PC today. Beautiful coin with no marks...just that. A ponytail hanging out.

Yet another hornet's nest on a Jefferson 2022 P nickel. Found lots of them.
