I edited your thread title for you, Joe. In 1929, Australia didn;t have "cents", they had "pennies". 
As for the grade, this is an excellent example of why split grading is sometimes a good thing. The reverse is relatively scar-free, and would grade an American EF. The damage on the obverse brings that side down to a very low American VF, maybe even Fine. A VF-25 average grade would be appropriate - though a TPG might consider there to be so many dints and scratches as to make it ungradeable.
