You could take it to a coin store or if you know of a collector that has one, test it with an XRF to see if it's real gold or not. If it is the correct gold composition then the next question, is it genuine or a counterfeit though made of gold. Someone with experience about these could look at it for their opinion. Nice find!!

well the guy at the coin shop where I bought the bag of world coins looked at it said it had all the right characteristics of a real coin and is looking into the coin books I asked he just run it threw the Sigma testing but we will see going there today to find out what he comes up with.

It's overweight for 1/4 Cali gold. Typical weights were in the .2 to .3 grams range. I'm leaning towards a reproduction.
