Quote:Should be in the marginal inscription around the quatrefoil reverse: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=12010851(doesn;t help for me since I can;t read a letter of Arbic ). Yes, my point exactly. If a coin of a different calendar is posted here, it should be accompanied with sufficient explanation as to how the date is known. In this case, the words for "one and eighty" are written in the margins as you say, on the right image the 1 is at 9k and 80 is at 6k. One is pronounced wahid, and only a portion of the "wa" is clear, while the "hid" portion is lost due to the weak strike but still readable. Well that's my take on it anyway.

I am certainly unqualified. Hopefully J1M will have something to say.

How about this...
8. Updated Rule: During each year, you must wait at least (30 minutes? 1 hour?) before posting another coin to allow for more participation and moderate the pace, especially during the first two centuries

Sounds fair to me, maybe 1 hour, though I'm not sure why I think that.

@jbuck I don't know how my comments are perceived, sometimes words have two meanings when written, and sometimes they are taken out of context, but to be clear, I'm just trying to make a point to you that perhaps all AH coins should have a map or explanation to make it clear to all as to how the date has been arrived at. There is more to this forum than simply showing a coin. It's also about education.
As there is no doubt of andyg's AH 781coin, I propose to move it along with an AH 780 if that is OK with you, jbuck

I agree. I really appreciate how you present you coins, highlighting the text and translating it. If I have any chance of ever learning to do this myself, it is with that help.

AH 780 / 1378 Amirs of Astarabad, AR 6 dirham. Obv: Mint and date in words in looped quatrefoil Rev: Shia Kalima in Hexafoil and the name of 12 Shia imams around. Type D Album 2343.1. cf.Zeno 18736 Similar to andyg's coin previous, but this one is the first type of 6 dirham A2343.1 with the date on the left image, inside the quatrefoil. The word for eighty (thamanwun) is across the centre, and seven hundred (sabeumiaya) is at the bottom. The script is quite stylized and hard to mark up accurately (for me anyway), but the Zeno comparison shows mine to be the same.

Hopefully a dated coin will also be posted, but meantime here is a Brabant coin variously valued at either 2 groats or 3 groats, struck in an emission of March, 1377: Copyright Jean Elsen et ses Fils

That is a beauty @tdz. Again, the dude with sword appears to be a bit of a hipster.

@ tdz, does "brabant vrymaan" mean something related. I have it in the comments in my spreadsheet.
