I wasn't sure where I should post this, or even if I should.
This is a local newspaper clipping from July 4, 1980 dealing with the local perspective of the Cent shortages and how it related to the rising price of copper, at 95.3¢ per pound, less than 20% of today's cost.

Two years before the switch to zinc Cents.

Around that same time a credit union here was having a weekly drawing for everyone who cashed in at least $10 worth of cents. I dumped some off every week while they ran that deal and won a gift certificate to a BBQ joint.
