The U.S. Mint produced a $1 gold coin from 1849 - 1889, first with Lady Liberty and then an Indian Princess on the obverse.

The coins contained approximately 1.50 grams of gold and were 13mm - 15mm in diameter, slightly smaller than a dime.

Quote:
pjmolo, an actual gold $1 coin at present gold prices would be practically microscopic.

Vector Ze, present gold prices would be immaterial to the size of a new $1 gold coin.

If the Mint were to produce any gold coin with the size and content of the $1 gold coins made in the 1800's, it' s likely it would be sold by the Mint at a price relative to the current value of 1.50 grams of gold.

That said, the announcement by Secretary Bessent regarding a "new $1 gold coin" is erroneous as what will be produced is merely "golden" in color.

The Mint could take a simple step to celebrate the 250th and show its appreciation to its customers by including one of these Trump clad dollars in every Proof Set in a small plastic sleeve. . .as they did in 2019 with the "W" Cent and the 2020 "W" Nickel.
Given the steep price increase for the set, they can certainly afford it.

Seeing people Here are offering their opinions( seems politically motivated ) it's sad.

At this point, It really has nothing to do with politics, but common sense and actually trying to be a good human being.
When you are someone who is gender-diverse, like me, perhaps you'd understand more the association of discrimination and hate
touted at every end from Trump, his administration, and the majority of his supporters. So, given that, if you were someone
in my shoes, tell me, would you be happy to celebrate this and see Trump spouting about "freedom, and values for all,"
despite his very apparent lack of showing he actually
stands for this? I think not.

How about We all celebrate together, Looks like the coin is having No precious metal at all, Just a Landmark Anniversary Circulating coin.
The Nation deserves to celebrate and Enjoy All the freedoms and opportunities of the day, And it will.......
What a Great place to get away from it all, Please keep it that way, Have an Awesome year celebrating Our Wild America.

Sure. Nice in theory, but not applicable to everyone obviously.

Boba Debt said: There is a whole lot of political invective in this topic but I'm not surprised that it isn't being addressed.

You cannot imagine the restraint I've used.

And, Humanist1287, I'm not in your shoes, but I believe a POTUS should represent ALL citizens, not only those who support him.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

This escalated quickly and therefore I'm going to hit the pause button and lock the thread for now. I appreciate the restraint shown by folks to keep CCF focused on numismatics.
