It's weird. Have most of them just been stockpiled due to a lack of demand? Mintage is driven by Fed demand, which is driven by the demand of their member banks. Maybe what has been minted is from the Mint's anticipation of Fed orders and the bulk of that is still sitting in vaults waiting to be ordered.  |

I don't know if banks specify what coins they want or if they just order rolls and take what they get. They specify the denomination. They get shipped whatever the carrier has on-hand. Could be fresh, could be returns. I assume it is LIFO distribution. |

They've been saying that we will be a cashless society now for about 20 years. As long as there are hackers, credit card skimmers, etc, cash will always be king.
There are still businesses that do not accept cards like antique shops and a busy well known family restaurant near me, probably due to fees and chargebacks.
A bank teller recently told me that their coin suppliers, AKA armored car companies, wait til their old stock of coins is depleted before sending out the newer stuff. The more coins get used, the quicker we will see the new ones.
So lets go people!

Just look at how the kids buy things. There will be a cashless society. We might not live long enough to see it and by then, does it really matter to us?  |

I got 2 D Revolutionary War quarters this past weekend changing a $10 out for quarters for pinball. First 2026 coins for me, and only my 3rd 2025/2026.
