About two years ago, I acquired a CWR of 90% silver half dollars and a mixture of 20 more loose 40% and 90% silver half dollars at a bank located in a gated residence for senior citizens. But I haven't had much luck there since then.
Yesterday a teller told me that she had $11 worth of half dollars in her tray (an interesting amount). When I arrived I could tell that several coins contained silver. The result was better than I expected: eight
Franklin half dollars, one 1964
Kennedy half dollar, and three more coins that contain 40% silver.
On a hunch I asked the teller if she also had CWRs of quarters and dimes. None of the dime rolls looked unusual -- but her tray included four rolls of quarters in old-fashioned wrappers. After I purchased them, I saw two silver coins in the ends of each roll. Sure enough, they contained 157 silver quarters and a few clad coins.
These half dollars and quarters contain 32+ ounces of silver (almost twice the size of my best previous silver score). I suppose that after an elderly coin collector passed away, a relative cashed the collection at face value. I am going to contact the branch manager to ask the teller if she remembers which customer recently cashed the unusual-looking quarter rolls so I can anonymously share their value with the heir(s).
