Picked up this 1951 Big Nickel at my local coin shop. I noticed doubling of the legend on the obverse.

Neat, even private mints can have problems.
Will have to look at mine (if I can find it) to see
if has the same doubling.

It looks like Die Deterioration to me, but they probably weren't minting them in the millions. Probably cheap steel in either the master of one of the dies.

No idea how they strike the big nickels or make the dies, but it is 100% doubled without a doubt. Whether it be master die doubling or struck with the second strike not lined up correctly I am uncertain.

Nice find, I want one now lol
