@dodoal - This picture appears to be of a 2001-P Canadian nickel, not a dime.
There were two nickels that year, one no P and one with a P.
Yours is a 2001-P, multi-ply plated steel (94.5% steel, 3.5% copper, 2% nickel plating)
As DBM says: "
It's rusting from the inside out. The fate of all our steel coins once the plating is breached by damage."
The nickel plating has been damaged in some way and the steel core is rusting.
PMD.
